Histos REM: Rapid Electron Microscopy

The need for rapid EM for same-day diagnosis

Histos REMElectron Microscopy (EM) is extensively used in clinical pathology, whenever the support of ultrastructural morphology can offer a more precise diagnostic answer. Over the past decades, EM has not been performed as a major routine, primary diagnostic procedure due to the lengthy specimen preparation processes required, taking up to two or more days. This contrasts with paraffin tissue processing, which is now available for same-day diagnosis with Milestone’s microwave histoprocessors.
For acceptance of EM as a same-day diagnostic tool, Milestone has developed the HISTOS REM system, combining state-of-the-art laboratory microwave hardware, user centric software, and dedicated processing modules. A result of the technology transfer from the successful application of microwaves to rapid histoprocessing, the new HISTOS REM processor dramatically reduces EM specimen turn-around time from days to approximately four hours.

SAME-DAY DIAGNOSIS EVEN FOR EM PROCEDURES

This new capability will allow pathologists to complete a diagnostic report based on H&E, H.C, I.HC, and EM all on the same-day, contributing to a timely, definitive diagnosis.
